I'm not sure I understand you. Do you think it is reasonable to hang on
'sol activate' if there is no peer on the other end?

My point is that if you hang, fine. But let me quit out of ipmitool
normally. As it stands  I have to kill the process or ssh session to
quit. This seems like a bug to me.

Note that in all cases my command line is:

/opt/ipmitool/bin/ipmitool -I lanplus -H $address -U ADMIN -E -e! sol
activate

so the SOL escape character is '!' to disambiguate it from ssh's '~'
character.

There's a pretty obvious reason why they use ~. instead of CTRL-C.
