There are several IPMI LAN parameters that need to be set properly, and an IPMI
user needs to be set up. Each parameter can be set with ipmitool, or you could
use detected defaults for most of the parameters by using ipmiutil.sf.net.

To set up a shared IP with the OS, and to set the null user with a null
password, enter 'ipmiutil lan -e -p ""'.
Then clients should be able to connect remotely for testing. You would
probably want to configure a custom username/password as well for production
use.

Subject: [Ipmitool-devel] where can I found doc to setup IPMI over LAN ?

Hello

Sorry, it's might be the incorrect list but I don't found informations
about
setup IPMI over Lan

I'm running a debian sarge 3.1 with a 2.6.20 kernel
open ipmi kernel driver are loaded and works correclty.

My motherboard is a supermicro p8sci
Supermicro told me to use their proprietary software and that I should
remove every other thing!!!!
To remove every kind of hardware monitory tools that are not made in
supermicro !

Moreover told me too that I can't run IPMI over other lan interface than
the first the LAN motherboard port with the same IP as the server !
So I do this and ... and sure now my server doesn't answer anymore !

Any ideas, tips , doc to have a working IPMI over lan are welcome
I hope that someone could give me an hand

Regards
