You should make sure that the flow control settings are correct, too.

(BTW, despite of correct settings, sometimes, in particular during
heavy serial traffic [FAI installation log] my output gets out of sync
but re-syncs later. Perhaps this is due to UDP?
BIOS screens never have been a problem, independent of the size of
the terminal window (I often forget to switch back from maximized)
