That would be my guess.  Different servers and vendors provide different 
levels of information in the SDRs.  OpenIPMI (and ipmitool, for that 
matter) can only handle what is in the SDRs or standardized.  I don't 
have much experience with HP or Dell servers, so I can't really speak 
much about them.

You might want to look for firmware upgrades, BTW.

In general, something is as compatible as it is compliant to the 
standard and provides information.

OpenIPMI 2.0.x has some new features and RMCP+, but nothing really 
different as far as compatibility, and probably not much that would 
affect you (unless you are viewing/editing FRU data; in that case 2.0.x 
is quite a bit better).  And OpenIPMI 2.0.x has a GUI.
