        there was a hairbrained idea to have Internic (pre-RIR)
        run the DHCP server for the Internet... :)

        things that don't like renumbering:

        BGP endpoints
        SNMP agents & collectors & network mgmt code
        syslog
        DNS authoritative servers
        DHCP servers
        (anything w/ access controls or policy based on IP addresses)
        (anything w/ hardcoded or well-known addresses)
