If you change this you should not have any adverse effects as long as you do not have another service running on that port, like a web server. In fact on a test machine I have a web server running on port 80 with https disabled and Web Messaging running on port 443. This makes it easy to connect to http://official.host.name for Web and https://official.host.name for secure Web Messaging.
