Todd, Is the 1.01 server the evaluation version and the 1.0 client from a 1.0 evaluation server? If so, the 1.0 client will not be able to talk to the 1.01 server. There are different levels of encryption between the two pieces of software. But, with future registered and evaluation versions, the encryption levels will be the same between versions and this will work.

Prior to rolling the IPSwitch Instant Messenger client to users, I thought I'd test a few elements, one of which being the Client Update. So, I uninstalled my 1.01 client and installed the 1.00 client. Before connecting, I created a share on the server that clients could access - \\<machinename>\client_update$ - and entered that information into the IPSwitch IM Server Manager. I stopped and restarted the service, and then confirmed my changes with "OK". When I try to connect to a 1.01 server with a 1.00 client, my processes spike up to 100% (used by the IMClient.exe) and nothing happens. I've tried giving it the complete path - \\<machinename>\chat_client $\IMClient101.exe - and I've tried providing a HTTP-based URL. In both instances, I've tried with and without the executable in the path. In all instances, the connection is made, and an error shows up in the log file. Thinking that I'm just not patient enough, I let the process run at 100% and I still see no changes. After killing the process, manually uninstalling the 1.00 client and re-isntalling the 1.01 client, everything works like a champ. So what am I doing wrong? What is the proper syntax for the Client Update URL/Path? Am I even using it in the right fashion? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Todd To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/ipswitchim_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/Instant_Messenger/index.asp To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/ipswitchim_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/Instant_Messenger/index.asp
