Hi Chris -

I've also been running the Ipswitch IM since the beginning. While I
certainly do not use the messenger as much as my clients do (kinda odd, I
suppose), I've not received any word regarding the problems you've been
encountering. In fact, my IM server (which is also running WebTrends and
our corporate Intranet) has been holding up quite well with just over 100
users on the system. I'm running a three CPU server (Xeon 550MHz) with
512MB RAM. Probably a little big for what I need, but since it's handling
other requests, I wanted to make sure there was enough horsepower.

I've not upgraded to 1.03 yet, since everything with 1.02 is serving me
well enough. Version 1.03 didn't give me anything new (I'm running NT
authentication, not IM authentication), so I decided to hold back on the
upgrade. I'm also not forcing a persistent connection for my clients,
letting them configure that in their client settings. However, since 90%
of our users are on our local network, a persistent connection isn't really
needed.

The box you're on certainly seems to have enough horsepower to run the IM
server. You might want to include as much detail as possible (without
giving away your whole network infrastructure) to this mail list to see if
anyone else has any ideas. Also, be sure to contact tech support on this
to see what they have to offer.

Good luck!
-Todd

We have been using the IM since version 1.0. We have approximately 100
users simultaneously. We have been having constant problems with clients
getting dropped and users being forced to log back onto the server, and
slow response time (sometimes up to 30 seconds for the message to appear in
the window). I have just recently moved the IM Server to a dedicated box, a
P3 600 with 256 MB RAM. I upgraded to the current patch level, 1.03 and
redeployed the client to all users, fingers crossed that this might reduce
the problems we are encountering. Within Server Manager I have checked
Force Clients to use Persistent Data connection. Please, anyone with more
insight, I would sure like to continue using the product but the boss is
about ready to dump the whole thing.

Thanx in Advance.
