If you think sendmail is not cutting-edge, you have never harmed yourself trying to make it work!
I'm sorry I started this off-topic flame war... I start using sendmail in 1990s and it was the best, but it was some ages ago, when all mail servers should accept mail from anywere in order to allow users to migrate around the net (today we have spam and we call this configuration open-relay and it's evil)... of course sendmail is a lot different from the ancient sendmail we run in 1990s, but when in switched from sendmail to postfix (maybe 10 years ago) I didn't miss at all the m4 macros and the sendmail.cf ;-)
....even ios 10.x was good, but that's not the ios we looks for when we install new networ gears
...and again, I'm offtopic, sorry again (I promise it's the last mail I send on this topic)
BTW, the problem with smtp over ipv6, as for my experience, is not with the MTA/MDA, but with antispam filters, webmails, stats software, etc, which, not always are ipv6 ready :-(
