Dennis & Walt,

I was using John's MW550P when it started getting noisier and the gain
started dropping. I wondered if a charge down the line on the 1500'
beverage was the culprit, however I have all my the antennas on matching
transformers and I have not noticed any large amount of voltage to the
receiver. I would think using the small wire on the matching
transformer, it would have burned that too. However several months later
during a lightening storm (I had my antennas disconnected), The pot on
the SW EWE died. It was burnt alright, so some voltage hit it. The
strike was in Astoria 8 miles away though. I have no idea how sensitive
the RF circuits are in the MW550P. The Drake R8 has a lot of protection,
except with a direct strike of course.
