Guy,

Thanks for your feedback on the SDR units. I had kind of wondered if the
technology of computer generated receivers could take care of certain
noise issues. It had crosssed my mind, but I never asked anyone about
them.

The clicking of the fence varies from times when I can turn the noise
blanker off to other times in the Summer when things are so dry that the
clicking gets to the point that the R8 has a problem with getting rid of
100% of the noise. The noise does not keep me from logging a station,
but it is not enjoyable to deal with.

The Palstar has added a bit of help, with such a high Q that it keeps
the blanker in the R8 working next to strong signals. But of course
nothing works perfect all of the time.

Where you would have a receiver like a SDR, you would have the ability
to adjust things the way you want to adjust them rather than having a
receiver with limits.

At this time a new receiver is not in my budget, but as time goes on, I
will check into them more. This would be a huge change in the way I do
things. I am so set in my ways, but I did move from the Boat Anchors to
a solidstate receiver. I am glad I did. The R8 has been a jewel for me.
