>From the "it's a small world" department: The brother of the CE that I
work for now was the CE who built the Marathon FL facility. He said that
the working title during the construction phase was Radio Free Cuba.
After the completion of the project he was promoted to a position in DC
which he hated. He said the only place he could afford to live was 50
miles out of DC and he had to commute in daily by train. He eventually
got transferred back to Marathon. But they had budget problems a decade
or so ago and gave him the choice of accepting a lower rated position or
retiring at his then current position. He did the math and found out
that he would make more retiring at the higher position than he would
make if he continued working at the lower position! So he's long retired
from them now and lives in the Waco TX area where he is the radio
engineer for the water department that serves the Bush ranch!
Unfortunately he no longer has any contacts within Radio Marti.

By the way, the studios for Radio Marti were in DC from 1985 until about
1996 when they moved to the Miami area.

Didn't I just read that there is a CP on 1180 somewhere in the northern
part of FL? I would think that they would be quite unhappy if Marti was
to go ND with 100 kw.
