There was a front page article in the San Jose Mercury-News two weeks ago (on 
the anniversary of the Hayward Fault quake that you mentioned).  They said that 
there is a running average of 140 years between big ones, and this is the 139th 
anniversary.  It might be time for Albert Lehr to get out his surfboard, 'cuz 
there's gonna be a 7.000034 closeby.

Yes. They are close and both originate to the south from the San
Andreas system down in the Morgan Hill area. One could probably
speculate either that this will relieve pressue on the Hayward, thus
delaying it or one could argue that this builds them up, bringing it
sooner. May as well stick with any prior prediction. The last major one
on the Hayward was in the 1860's, IIRC. Given a predicted period of
about 150 years +/- 30, yours above is right there.
