Hello All,
If you are listening to your local ball game on your SRF-59, don't be
surprised if you hear a different station when you turn a corner.
The latest craze among Ultralight fanatics is to take an SRF-59 at
night, start nulling one local after another (using a tripod or shims if
necessary), and log multiple stations that no other portable or table radio
can
possibly receive (without a phasing unit). Chances are very few, if any, of
your
locals will survive an SRF-59 "Zap Attack." My own suburban situation is
typical... the locals drop one after another like flies. .IBOC-encrusted
KHHO-850 is zapped bringing in Denver; KIRO-710 yields to Los Angeles, and
even
KSUH-1450, about 2 miles away, yields to Port Angeles, WA.
The game gets really interesting when you place two SRF-59's together,
using Kevin Schanilec's innovative audio phasing setup... producing a very
effective phasing system for under $35. But even if you have only one SRF-59,
go ahead and zap your locals... you won't be disappointed.
Many have asked whether any digital Ultralight radio has a nulling
ability similar to the SRF-59's phenomenal power... and the answer is yes!
The
Sony SRF-T615 flagship model can null just as well as the SRF-59, but it is
slightly less selective... and it will set you back about 105 bucks, including
shipping from Japan.
So if you want science fictional nulling ability for only 15 bucks, you
really only have one choice... the radio that kicked off the Ultralight
Revolution, the amazing SRF-59.
