San Francisco being so hilly, you probaby would not have to worry about tides. The Oregon coast is quite flat along our area. The Long Beach area in SW WA is even flatter, more like Tuvalu, except not built on Coral. But being a mile off the shore, there are rolling sand dunes and some hills. So even a 20 foot wave would not reach us. A 50 foot might though.
