Alot of the older AM stations were built to meet the then FCC rules that
required "on duty" engineers, or were built as a back up studio. KVI and most
of the AM stations on Vashon Island had a back-up studio, just in case the link
went down from the main studios. In a time when housing is short and the baby
boomers are getting older -- why not "convert" or add a 20 ft by 25 foot room
and rent it out to some low income person. HUD -- section 8 could even -- pay
the costs. In fact HUD will even pay for the "Conversion" costs as well as
70% of the "market" monthly rent. Why hire a private guard -- when the
Federal Government will do it for you. --- And help someone that needs a
home. Your local Fire Protection District gets Federal Homeland Security
funds. And new proposed federal laws will make Radio and TV Broadcasters
covered as "First Responders" and provide food, gas and power to stations "in
time of need".
