Alot of the older AM stations were built to meet the then FCC rules that required "on duty" engineers, or were built as a back up studio. KVI and most of the AM stations on Vashon Island had a back-up studio, just in case the link went down from the main studios. In a time when housing is short and the baby boomers are getting older -- why not "convert" or add a 20 ft by 25 foot room and rent it out to some low income person. HUD -- section 8 could even -- pay the costs. In fact HUD will even pay for the "Conversion" costs as well as 70% of the "market" monthly rent. Why hire a private guard -- when the Federal Government will do it for you. --- And help someone that needs a home. Your local Fire Protection District gets Federal Homeland Security funds.
