Craig,
If you were serious about that last statement, you might want to go
out and buy a WinRadio 313e. Before you die laughing, Chuck Rippel
(of R-390A restoration fame) and I are quietly in love with these
wonderful SDRs.... if you believe in active, real time DXing... they
are nimble moving around the band, have a first rate GUI and hear
things very well. Their internal audio recorder is a good one,
too. Their RF recording capability (20 kHz wide) is pathetic and
I've never really used it.
WinRadio sells a complete add-on for remotely operating the 313e and
(I understand) it has been used very successfully by various
governmental agencies. I don't personally know of anyone who has used
this receiver remotely. So "If I found an SDR that would be operable
over the internet, I'd buy it
today." maybe you want to check it out?

That would be interesting. If Spectravue would take the bugs out of the
current program and allow remote operation, that would be good. Ideally
RFSpace would add an ethernet port and the Spectravue would accomodate this,
it would be ideal. I hope it's a matter of (short) time before this
appears.
In many ways this would be a significant step up. Using ethernet would
eliminate the current USB port speed limitation and perhaps allow greater
recorded or viewed bandwidth concurrent with demodulation.
If I found an SDR that would be operable over the internet, I'd buy it
today.
