Sorry for being late in catching up with these Digests but yes the UltraShort Antenna (USAnt) Craze is definitely on and maybe Colin can dedicate some webspace on dxer.ca! Mr. Vroom see what you started?!
SERIOUSLY - Paperclips are being used by TV viewers / DX'ers also. With the conversion to DTV, many viewers who are too CLOSE to strong TV transmitters are being told to shove an unbent paperclip into the antenna in (F Connector) of their converter boxes / ATSC equipped TV's due to the high RF conditions. I think that I have read of folks using paperclips in long distance WiFi antennas (like the Cantenna). 73, Dave in Indy ------------------------------ Message: 9 Date: Wed, 10 Dec 2008 09:06:30 -0800 (PST) From: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IRCA] Night time Paper clip antenna band scan To: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain;charset=iso-8859-1 Hi Patrick/Dennis: Apparently KGO used to show up here in the Seattle-area ratings as well, at least until 820-KGNW went on the air a few years back. If people all had selectable sideband synch radios (and they should!), that would probably still happen, since KGO still booms in every night and is quite listenable on the Sony 7600GR's LSB synch. Re: the paper clip antenna - this could be the start of a new UltraShort Antenna craze, with high-conductivity gold-plated paper clips, special techniques for straightening them for maximum sensitivity, custom matching baluns, etc. Consider yourselves warned.... :-) Kevin S Bainbridge Island, WA > Hi Dennis, > > Thanks for your bandscan.
