Hi Patrick, When I had my Perseus SDR blog up and running, a number of us had input about the Audio Technica ATH-ANC7 noise cancelling headphones. This is a highly rated model like the Bose, but for about half the price. On reviews such as on Amazon.com, many think they sound just as good as the BOSE.
I have a pair and like them a lot, and find the noise reduction is excellent. I like the detachable cord so you can use the 'phones simply for reducing ambient noise, and not be bothered with the cord if you aren't listening to music. I also use the ATH-ANC7 while DXing, especially at the coast on DXpeditions due to the noise from crashing waves and wind. They really help me concentrate by knocking down a LOT of nature's QRM! They are at least as good as my pricey audiophile-grade headphones when it comes to reproducing nuances of DX audio in order help catch a difficult ID. (I'm NOT a DXer that likes "communications" headphones which restrict the audio frequencies; I prefer to shape the audio if needed through passband tuning and filter selection.) For DXing as well as for music listening, low distortion & wide frequency range headphones are my preference. I bought my pair of ATH-ANC7s on Ebay for about $90 in mint, used condition. Beware of a ATH-ANC7B, newer model... some people say it is not as good for DX audio. I have lots more detail on this particular headphones in my blog archive, which I can dig up if you are interested. 73, Guy Atkins Puyallup, WA _______________________________________________ IRCA mailing list [email protected] http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: [email protected]
