Low voltage halogens make noise from beyond hell. I have a house full of CFLs and they make ZERO noise. No problem whatsoever. They save me about $35 a month on my electric bill. Thats about $420 a year and I have no problem DXing with them. I have two CFLs still running that I bought in 1989. Its worth the money. Most of mine are Panasonic and Philips or a well known brand name. They cost a little more but you get what you pay for. I do get a little hiss from them if the radio is less than one foot from the lamp.
