Jim,

Yes indeed, the non QSLer was rare. I remember KDAC Fort Bragg CA being
one of those. The owner did not like DXers for some reason. I heard them
in the late 60s and on occasion in the early to mid 70s when local KVAS
was off. I never could get a QSL out of them. No one could during the
era that I know of. I did not hear them for years until the mid 90s. I
thought, why not try again. I send a report and after a couple weeks,
Bob & I were headed to LA again, so on the way back, Bob who wrote for
Radio World for years was looking for the small stations to do articles
on. While we were driving North on I-5, we stopped for gas at Willits,
and I thought I would phone KDAC. The CE answered the phone and he had
not seen my report as it probably went to the new owner. Yes, they were
sold as the old owner had passed on. I told him that we wanted to do an
article on KDAC for RW and get a QSL. He said come on over and he would
personally answer my DX report. By the way, I did have a copy with me.
So it was a neat afternoon, one of those old buildings with the tower in
the back and nice KDAC calls on the front. A Radio museam in the front
room of the building too. A beautiful blue sunny day, perfect for
pictures. You could not ask for a better day. When we got back a couple
days later, in with a few QSLs was another from KDAC signed by the GM.
So even non verifiers do verify in time, even if it took 25 years or so.
hi.

Patrick
