If you're concerned about the need to install and use Java, there is another alternative: install an IRC client and connect directly to the StarChat network instead of logging in through the web interface. This eliminates the need for Java and provides a more stable connection. Since I use Linux, I don't have any specific recommendations for Windows IRC clients, but this article looks like a useful guide: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/top-7-free-irc-clients-windows-7/ Perhaps some Windows (and Apple?) users who already use IRC will chime in with further suggestions. For Linux, I like the XChat client. C'mon in, the water's fine!
