Nick,
In the early 80's? China was heard often in the SF Bay Area during the fall
season. A NRC 4' foot loop worked well in my 1 bedroom apartment in Albany, CA.
At work one morning around 5:00 AM, I placed a RCA Super Radio against a
vertical steel I-beam and China 1040 was heard. Those I-beams made great
antennas in the warehouse. How a I can tune 1040 and hear China International
on KXPD Portland, OR. Best regards,
Dennis Vroom,
Kalama, WA

Subject: Re: [IRCA] domestic dx
Back in the '60s, the Asian and Australian DX was still on the 10 kHz
channels, but there were also still clear channels, so domestic
interference was not a big issue on a number of frequencies.
I think the only one I heard then was China on 1040, but at least in
IRCA, DXers in California, and I think Seattle, heard others, using
just air core loop antennas, and big iron communication receivers.
best wishes,
Nick
