For Kiwi transplant Tony Ward, this is one of hundreds of DU-DX recordings made
on the ocean beach of Aitutaki in the Cook Islands. A cyclone was passing
through Fiji waters on April 10th, affecting not only Fiji but Walt's nearby
cruise ship. At 0812 UTC 990-Fiji Gold's announcer gives the current cyclone
status, along with advice that if listeners' FM signal is knocked out by the
cyclone, they should tune to the AM frequency of 990. As with almost every
other DU-DX target in Aitutaki, Fiji Gold hits a thunderous S9 level during the
recording, and shows no mercy to a weak ANZ co-channel. This MP3 was recorded
on the hot-rodded (7.5" loopstick) C.Crane Skywave SSB Ultralight alone
