Since this is a Gary - Nick comparison, let's use Gary;s location as the starting point and assume a DU bearing of 225 degs (halfway between NZ and the east coast of Australia).
That path goes through Centralia WA and then to the coast at the mouth of the Columbia River. That's way south of the Olympic peninsula and its mountains.
