Last night in Pembroke, we had the chance to fence foil on a box with the new timings.
For those of you which don't know these are the details for foil:

For a hit to register the point of the foil must stay depressed for 15ms. (This is 3
times as long as the previous timing).

After a fencer has hit, his opponent he has 300ms (a little less then a third of a
second) to hit him back otherwise the second hit will not register.

What did we find was the effect of this? Well to start with, we couldn't get a flick
hit to the back to register at all. Even with fencers standing there and letting us
try, it just would not register. Secondly bent arm attacks and riposts were just not
working out for us.

There were a few problems at the start. There were several hits which we believed
should have registered did not. On releection we think that was due to our foils not
being taped up sufficiently. Important note for anyone fencing with new timings: TAPE
UP YOUR FOIL! Previously a badly taped foil might have lost you 1 hit in 50 or so. Now
it's more like 1 in 10. We added tape to out foils and thinks seems to work better
after that.

Bit tired this morning though. Myself, Yevgenny and Kevin must have fenced for about 2
 on the new box.
