Iraq child prisoners abused by U.S. forces Report

More than 107 child prisoners, some as young as 10, are being raped and tortured by U.S. occupation forces in Iraqi jails

TELL YOUR REPS TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE TREATMENT AND ILLEGAL DETENTION OF CHILD PRISONERS

Please take a moment to write to your representatives and ask them to speak out against the illegal detention of children in Iraq and Palestine. Reports on the abuse at Abu Ghraib indicate that the Pentagon has proof (photographs and video) that detained Iraqi children are being sodomized and raped by American soldiers.

In Israel, Palestinian children are also being held indiscriminately and illegally in violation of international law and human rights law. Reports by Israeli human rights organizations indicate that like Iraqi children, Palestinian child detainees are regularly tortured and not allowed visits by either the Red Cross or their parents.

Ask for the Iraqi Detainees Basic Rights

The detention and imprisonment system in Iraq needs a lot of work before it starts to function in a way that respects Human Rights and local laws. This campaign asks for three very simple and achievable points, and further campaigns will follow in case the goals of this one are achieved. This campaign aims to help detainees in Iraqi get the basic rights during the first three days of detention.

US held prisoners in 'secret' jail

Two Yemeni prisoners say they were held in a secret, underground US detention facility in solitary confinement in an unknown country for more than 18 months, Amnesty International reported.

Human Rights lawyers representing detainees of the war on terror said the Amnesty report appeared to provide the first confirmation of allegations that the United States is holding "secret detainees" in undisclosed locations.

Iraq and Washington’s ‘seeds of democracy’

‘The reason we are in Iraq is to plant the seeds of democracy so they flourish there and spread to the entire region of authoritarianism.’ George W. Bush

When George W. Bush spoke of planting the ‘seeds of democracy’ few realized he might have had in mind Monsanto seeds.

Following the US occupation of Iraq in March 2003, the economic and political life of that country changed radically. Iraq is under the complete economic control of the occupying power, the United States.

The Tyranny of Common Sense

The Faulty Logic of "Terrorist" Profiling

Growing up in the South, I often heard folks criticize others for being "common." To be called common was to be vilified as trashy and unworthy of respect. Putting aside the elitist implications of such a slur, the pejorative nature of the term has always stuck with me, so much so that when I hear something described as "common sense," I instinctively assume that while it may indeed be the former, it is rarely ever the latter.

Documents Tell of Brutal Improvisation by GIs

It was inside a sleeping bag that the 56-year-old detainee took his last breath through broken ribs, lying on the floor beneath a U.S. soldier in Interrogation Room 6 in the western Iraqi desert. Two days before, a secret CIA-sponsored group of Iraqi paramilitaries, working with Army interrogators, had beaten Mowhoush nearly senseless, using fists, a club and a rubber hose, according to classified documents.

Where the heck is our sense of empathy?

Why can't we see ourselves in the faces of those kids firing RPGs at convoys of Halliburton trucks stealing Iraqi oil?

Cheering for the underdog is as American as fatty food. In the movies we love heroes who simply want to be left alone--but are willing, like Charles Bronson in "Death Wish," to dish out double-sized portions of blazing revenge when the baddies cross the line. Why, then, don't we pull for the Iraqi insurgents?
