ISFAHAN, Jan. 11--Ambassadors of 24 Muslim countries
stationed in Iran arrived here Tuesday to attend a
ceremony marking the designation of Isfahan as the second
cultural capital of the Muslim world.
Upon arrival at Isfahans Shahid Beheshti Airport, the
Muslim diplomats were welcomed by the deputy governor
general of the province.
The ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at the
historical and grandiose Imam Square, will begin late on
Tuesday by hoisting the flags of 57 Muslim states and
playing Irans national anthem.
The city is named as the second cultural capital of the
Muslim world after the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
The official ceremony marking the event will be held at
Abbasi Hotel on Wednesday, concurrent with Eid Al-Adha.
Majlis Speaker Gholamali Haddad-Adel is expected to attend
the ceremony.
Another batch of ambassadors from Muslim states in Iran
will arrive in the city on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent a message on
the occasion and said the designation of Isfahan as the
Muslim worlds cultural capital by Islamic Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) is a great
historical opportunity for Iran.
