Sibu religious group prays for divine intervention against cyber gambling 14 Sept 2012 SIBU: A group comprising pastors, priests, lay leaders and members from the different churches here are hoping for divine intervention to deal with what they believe is "very rampant cyber-gambling" affecting local youths. Spokesman for "Pray-4-Sibu," Daniel Ngieng, said it learnt with great concern of the plight of those who had fallen victim. "People are getting into debt and some are resorting to borrowing from loan sharks. "This social ill has also caused some broken marriages and family problems, more theft cases, studying problems among students and poor work performance by affected employees," he told a press conference. Daniel, who is Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman, said the greed of people in the form of the get-rich-quick mentality too had made cyber gambling all the more rampant. "We also want to pray for the enforcing authority, especially our police force, so that they have the strength, moral courage and obligation to redouble their efforts to clamp down on and weed out all kinds of illegal gambling. "In the same way, we also pray and appeal to all shophouse owners to refrain from renting their premises to all such undesirable operation," he said. Daniel said the group had firm belief that God would stand on the side of righteousness. "However, we make no condemnation of any individual or party concerned because we firmly believe that God loves all the people. "We hope more people can join us in our quest by praying individually. We also want to challenge more churches, pastors, priests, church leaders, fellowship groups, cell groups and uniform bodies to respond to our call ... pray and act against cyber gambling," he said. - Bernama http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/9/14/nation/20120914190554&sec=nation
