Asalamu Alaikum, Would any brothers or sisters know why English translations of the Qur'an are only done by individual scholars and not a council?
Many translations are discredited because they are from a certain sect, from someone who is too muslim, or from someone who is not a muslim at all and so on. Why doesn't a group of muslims, non-muslims, sunnis, shias, and any other group get together and agree upon the meanings so we have ONE translation that is accepted. Also, I would like to understand why even in this very modern day many translators rely upon the Tafseers of scholars who lived in medieval arabia in a very completely different world? Of course those men were wise and gifted in understanding, but that was only for their own time and place. I feel many people don't read the Qur'an as often as they should for all these reasons. -It's hard to find a translation that's accepted. -The Qur'an seems to relate to a time gone by.
