Dear Brother,
Salaams.

Increase your Nafl Salaat and you will find yourself doing less of all
that you wish to reduce.
Verily Salaat protects from lewdness and evils.

It is a device of Satan for us to concentrate on the evils.
Concentrate on doing the positives and the evils will fall by the
wayside from neglect.

And of course make Tauba.

Subject: I asked myself as Ramadan approached ...

Assalamu alaykum and Ramadan Mubarak to all the Muslims ...

I ASKED MYSELF AS RAMADAN APPROACHED ...

* How can I improve my relationship with the Holy Qur'an and draw closer
to
its
message this month?

* How, specifically, can I mend a quarrel, and avoid provoking one, this
month?

* In what specific situations should I be aware of the danger of
backbiting over the next month?

* What habitual misdeed or personal indulgence am I willing to step away
from
(example: smoking, watching pointless television programs), beginning
this
month?

* What specific Islamic behavior (example: controlling the tongue) am I
working
to make a permanent part of my character this month?

* What non-Islamic institution or convention (example: haram images in
the
media) will I make special effort to protect myself an my family from
this
month?

* What charitable deeds will I perform this month, and when?

* What positive change will non-Muslims notice in my behavior this
month?

* How often will I visit the masjid this month?

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom
(i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue
with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone
astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: "My Lord is Allah (believes in
His Oneness)," and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites
(men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: "I
am one of the Muslims."} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "By Allah, if
Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of
camels." [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, "Whoever
calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who
follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all."
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
