Turkey blasts Israel's truce violation

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says Israel violated a 6-month
truce with Hamas.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has slammed Israel for 'failing to
abide' by the Gaza cease-fire ahead of its war on the strip.
"Hamas, without a doubt, erred by firing rockets at Israel, but we must
consider that Hamas fully abided by the truce agreement with Israel for six
months, even though Israel did not," Erdogan told Al-Hayat on Sunday.
Israel unleashed Operation Cast Lead on the Gaza Strip on December 27,
allegedly to put an end to rocket attacks against southern Israeli towns. At
least 1,330 Palestinians died during the offensive, while some 5,450 others
were reported wounded.
Hamas says several of its senior officials, including late interior minister
Saeed Siyam, were killed by Israeli forces.
In his interview with the London-based newspaper, Erdogan said that Turkey
would send monitors to Gaza "if they are required to stabilize the truce
between Hamas and Israel."
He urged respect for the Palestinian Authority elections and called on Hamas
to playits proper role in the political arena of Palestine.
