Hi,
RealSecure, like any other network device, must have at least one
addressable NIC so it can communicate with the console. With this in mind,
it is not possible to use the stealth mode installation and only one NIC.
You have two basic options for a RealSecure installation:
Single NIC:
This installation assumes that you will have the RealSecure Network engine
using the same card to monitor and to report back to the console. In this
configuration, the engine reports back to the console system from the same
network segment it is monitoring. The console system can reside on any
network as long as there is connectivity of some sort between the engine
network and console network. The NIC must have an IP address to talk to the
console.
Dual NIC:
This installation allows you to use "stealth mode" where the RealSecure
engine card that is monitoring does not need an IP address. We'll call this
card the "stealth card". The "stealth card" needs no IP address and simply
listens in promiscuous mode. The second card must have an IP address so it
can communicate with the console to get it's configurations and to report
any attacks. You can have both these cards on the same network segment, but
that kind-of defeats the purpose of the stealth installation. What you
really want to do here is to have the "stealth card" on the network to be
monitored and connect the addressable card to a different network segment
that has connectivity to the console segment. It's even better if you have
an isolated security management segment that the console and addressable
engine card can use, but any user segment will do also.
If you still have problems with the packet driver or other installation
issues, please feel free to call or email our tech support and they'll be
more than happy to help walk you through any of this.
hope this helps!

Hi,
I wanted to install RS 3.2, with only one NIC (in
stealth mode), because it'll monitor the network
between one of our firewall and the internet.
I don't want to connet it to our LAN, that's why I
thought it's enough if I put only one interface to
the server.
There were two problems with this.
1.) It didn't install the Row Packet Driver
2.) The console didn't enable to load the Monitor
Detector, because it wants the IP address of the
non-existent second NIC.
How can I install the Real Secure with only one
NIC, and in stealth mode?
Thanks in advance!
