I have run several very large scans as well, some as large as 2.6 million
addresses, and I gave up on Internet Scanner's native reporting early on.
Until a few months ago, we used MS Access to agregate the data collected by a
dozen scanner machines (each scanning in blocks of 8000 addresses.) Lately, we
have begun to dump the scanning data to MS SQL Server 7. I would suggest that,
if you want to scan 12,000 systems on a regular basis, your use four scanners,
run scans in batches of 3,000 IP addresses per box, and point the ODBC drivers
to an external SQL Server machine. The sort of volume you're talking about
probably warrants more sophisticated reporting that what Internet Scanner can
give you anyway.

ISS recommends that you split up large scans into smaller sessions. How
then do you join the sessions to produce a single report? I can easily
generate a report off a single session but haven't been able to figure out
how to combine multiple sessions into a single report. As I'm doing a DB
discovery across about 12000 IPs the Scanner, quite frankly, drops dead
(actually it slows to a crawl, gets slower and slower, and appears to drop
dead.)

Anyone want to answer this "duh.." question of the week for me?

Thanks,
Ken
