When you inserted teh IP address of the email machine into the Golbal
responses did you insert it as

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/32?

I have never added teh mask at teh end, and subsequently when I use this to
replace the address used for the specific engines, there is on /32 added.
IOW, I do not have to supress the /32 because it is not there.

Also, you do NOT have to stop and start the engine to enforce the email
responses.

When you make the changes and exit, it automatically updates the policy
files on the engine. If you have the "Detector_info" messages displaying in
your low priority window, events will be displayed when the console pushes
those response changes to teh engine. In addition, you can also go over the
the engine machine and check teh appropriate policy files and see that they
have indeed changed.

Of course just changing those policy files does not ensure that they will be
read properly. However, when you change those, the engine should be forced
to reload or re-read these files. THis is effectively what shutting down
and restarting the engine does as well. SHutting down, etc. should not be
necessary as the engine should automatically re-read those files.

I know that in teh latest version of RS (5.0) this is all done automatically
and properly, as I tested this functionality myself! :-)

It should also be working properly in 3.2.1 as well.

I'm glad that you got everything working fine though!

Hello everybody,

and thanks a lot for all of you who have taken time to answer my question. I

managed to solve the problem, and here are the details:
*** At first, when configuring the email response, I used the button "..."
to fill in the Global responses -> Email -> Gateway field. When you click
"OK", it results in "<IP adress of the gateway>/32", "32" being of course
the mask indicating that the adress is a host's one. Afterwards, sadly, the
network detector tries to ask the DNS server (why?) with a gethostbyname for

"<IP adress of the gateway>/32" instead of "<IP adress of the gateway>",
which results in an error. So I modified the Email Gateway field by
suppressing the "/32" and it worked far more well...
*** As some of you told me, it was also necessary to shutdown and restart
the engines to enforce the email response modifications (why?).

Have a good day!

Erik
