I've come across a site which has automated an awful lot of this
(regular sensor polling, checking loginfo against warning thresholds,
checking engineinfo against expected output, checking local disk
space, synchronizing logs, automatic conditional archiving of the MDB
with replacement by a fresh file etc); they keep the master console
GUI stopped (not the master console, just the GUI) and use a mixture
of SNMP traps, alternate consoles, smoke & mirrors to do the actual
monitoring.
