-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 INTERNET THREAT UPDATE for 03-22-2002 ISS X-Force Internet Threat Intelligence Center www.iss.net - Click on AlertCon logo for more information. ******************************************** ALERTCON 1 Projected: AlertCon 1 ******************************************** ALERTCON 1 - AlertCon 1 reflects the malicious, determined, global, 24 x 7 attacks experienced by all networks. VM: An updated version of a patch released previously for Microsoft's Virtual Machine is now available. Two flaws in the VM include how Java requests for proxy resources are handled and the security checks on casting operations within the VM. zlib: Sources have indicated that the scope of this vulnerability reaches out to more system applications than first anticipated. In addition to Linux and Microsoft, it is now being reported that Netscape Navigator, PGP, and Symantec's Norton Antivirus may also be affected. Viruses/Worms: The 'MYLIFE.B' worm is reported to be propagating rapidly. It relies on enticing victims, through social engineering, to open an attachment posing as a Bill Clinton caricature. This virus does carry a destructive payload and deletes program files. ******************************************** RECOMMENDATIONS ******************************************** For the Microsoft bulletin, please refer to: <http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/se curity/bulletin/MS02-013.asp> For the zlib patch and further clarification, please see: http://www.gzip.org/zlib For information on the MYLIFE.B, please see: <http://www.antivirus.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=WORM_M YLIFE.B> Information regarding viruses and worms please see: <https://gtoc.iss.net/viruses.php> ******************************************** ATTACK SIGNATURE RANKING - global IDS, midnight - midnight, previous Day, % of total ******************************************** Protocol Decode 39.02% Suspicious Activity 25.96% Unauthorized Access Attempt 15.56% Denial Of Service 13.25% Pre-Attack Probe 06.19% Back Door 00.02% ******************************************** TOP TEN ATTACK DESTINATION PORTS - global IDS, midnight - midnight, previous day, % of top ten (ports found at) http://www.networkice.com/Advice/Exploits/Ports/default.htm ******************************************** 80 (http) 59.52% 161 (SNMP) 22.79% 21 (ftp) 04.68% 25 (smtp) 03.71% 162 (SNMPTrap) 03.31% 23 (telnet) 01.88% 139 (NetBIOS) 01.21% 22 (ssh) 01.14% 1500 (vlsi-lm) 00.97% 443 (ssl) 00.78% ******************************************** BACKGROUND, COPYRIGHT NOTICE, and DISCLAIMER ******************************************** Background.
