I've had similar issues with 6.5. The database error could possibly mean
you're over the 2 GB size limit and need to truncate it back to zero.
Instructions
to do this are on the ISS website under Customer Support | Product
Utilities.

How are you filling up your database so quickly? Another new 'feature' of
6.5, the Event Collector seems to generate large numbers of self-diagnosing

events. This is configurable under the Event Collector Properties but to my

mind even after cutting back on what it alerts on it's still alerting too
often.

Use the Deployment Wizard to add assets to your Event Collector, that's the
only way I've found to get the dang thing to 'remember' your sensors.
One of the product managers told me the order in which you start the SQL
engine
and the ISS Daemon also matters, but I've never seen any difference by
starting
one or the other first. After using the Deployment Wizard to re-add all my
sensors I hardly ever see this error (can't say I never see it though, which
is
disappointing to say the least).

Good luck
Jeff

All,

I've been using RealSecure since v3.2 and have never had a problem with
it/installing it, however I recently installed v6.5 and canot get the
EventCollector to talk to the database.

The "current" install on a Dell 2450 with 512MB RAM, Win2000 Server
edition,
with no Service Packs or HotFixes installed, and MSDE 8.0 from the ISS
downloads( Originall I had SP2, Security HotFix rollup, and MDAC2.7
installed,
but blew it all away just incase that was the issue ). All the components
are
installed on the one box to make things as simple as possible.

The EventCollector keeps give error messages to the effect :

"Fatal Database error, The Event Collector must shutdown to prevent loss
of
data..."

The sensors also complain about not being being monitored by an event
collector, even though they are...

The Console can manage the event collector and the network sensor(ie.,
start/stop them)...
If you use the ODBC Administrator and log in as the EventCollector user
and
"Test" the connection, that works fine( even worked when I was trying to use
an
MS SQL Server initially)

I've talked with technical support, and they confirm that I've set
everything
up correctly, and that it _should_ work..

If anyone has run into this problem before I'd appreciate any
help/suggestions.

 TIA

 Mark
