I hate to disagree, but I think the response was all that could be
hoped for. If you want any hope of a balanced, neutral comparison,
light on marketing, you ask for it in a neutral forum; in this case
focus-ids would be a good place. If you ask for a comparison on a
vendor's list, it's reasonable to expect the marketing material that
the vendor has on hand to help people feel good about picking their
product over the competition.

This material isn't useless; it's what you retain after you finish
the vendor selection process, to hand to anybody who comes along
later questioning your choice. It's not what you want for initial
product selection, but it's the reasonable response to expect when
you ask a vendor for a comparison.
