Hi.

I have a customer who was installing RS. Everything works Ok apart from the
user access between the EC and the database (MSSQL2K).

If he uses the sa user it all works fine. If he uses the EventCollector user
defined during installation it fails with the error:

"Connection failed. SQL status '42000' SQL server error 40064 [MSSQL] cannot
open user default database."

Because the sa user works fine, this means that the Databases are there and
working Ok on the SQL2K box, the ODBC config is correct, but that there is a
problem with the permissions for the EventCollector SQL user.

ISS Support came back to me and said the EventCollector user must have the
following attributes:

"EC Roles_memebership,Data_reader. data_writer, DB_ownerand Public"

The question that ISS refused the answer was how can I verify that the
account has been set up in this way...?

I know a little about MSSQL but it relates to SQL 6.5 (*yeuch*) and I'm not
willing to extrapolate across 2 major versions...

Therefore please can someone fill the missing gap and give me an SQL
statement (or SQL-EM guidelines) to see if the login exists and what
permissions it has...?

I did try to get this information out of ISS (call 578593) but they refused
and told me I had to call Microsoft. Hence I am asking the list asking for
your help.

Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards,
