Basically there is the design doc linked from the description that contains all
the changes we made including the new tokens accepted by this approach.

Additionally, I haven't found any docs for the current datetime pattern
handling (the SimpleDateFormat kind) but I feel it useful to also document
those as well. All I found about that is a verbose code comment here that
describes the logic and the accepted patterns:

And once we have both these documented we can highlight which functions use
which pattern handling.
