Oops, editing my comment.
I forgot for version 5.16.0 we decided to not add support for JDK 11 to build
(only runtime) as it requires a lot of changes like Scala, etc
We should leave things as is and target using JDK 11 to build in 5.17.0

Yes, 5.16.x should be able to build using JDK 11 but target JDK 8+ still. Then
in 5.17.x we can drop JDK 8 support entirely.
