reduce ((item, acc) -> ...) without an initial value must start from the first 
element; filter ((item, index) -> ...) must bind the index; overloaded fun must 
fail instead of last-wins; do { fun ...; var ... } must parse; 
unless/otherwise, try, then, update and splitAt must convert or fail at 
conversion.
