Latest patch applied (with Sebb's exception change suggestions, and one of my
own of IllegalArgumentException to IllegalStateException also applied).
Open questions:
* Changing all the repl/with's to something better.
* Digging at the algorithm a bit.
* Wondering why I just committed the wrong thing. Arse.
