Thanks, that's sorted it.
However the hang still occurs if one uses explicit mode - the new example uses
implicit mode.
With no TrustManager I get a CertificateException - no X509TrustManager
available.
I need to look again at the TrustManager issue.
The intention was to default to the builtin TrustManager - rather than just
ignoring most trust issues - but clearly that is not working for at least some
of the classes.
