Thanks for submitting the patch. However, requiring the additional setup line
in the user's code isn't consistent with the
[documentation|https://cordova.apache.org/docs/en/dev/cordova/events/events.menubutton.html],
and won't help with backwards compatibility for people who were affected by
this regression.

on a duplicate issue? I haven't personally tried it out, but it purports to
solve that problem and would be much better from an API perspective.
