Thanks for your responses. I think the issue (for me) is I've been using the
CLI tools to create the platform and plugin framework, and then using Xcode to
test, archive and submit. The only reason I've been using clean and build from
the CLI is to propagate changes to the app HTML, JavaScript and CSS into the
platform (Xcode target) environment. This used to work but doesn't now, because
of changes to the CLI tools and various Xcode parameters such as storyboards
(which I've been using since iOS 9).
So now I'm handling this differently, updating the Xcode target directly when I
synchronize the app files with my Android versions. I'm using the Xcode project
as the "master" because for me, it's easier. I think the complexity of managing
iOS configurations from the CLI is way too error-prone. I prefer the
substantial degree of automaton and error-correction that Xcode provides.
I think this issue can be closed now as a non-issue since it won't affect me
and my use case is clearly different from what the Cordova project expects.
