Clever. But the idiomatic Java way to be clever is:
```
List<SchemaPath> columns = subscan.columns() == null
? GroupScan.ALL_COLUMNS : subScan.columns();
```
Note that this code does what was suggested earlier: handle the no-columns
case here so that the cost calcs know if columns were pushed down.
