I agree that the proposed URL scheme would be nicer.
Like [~rmetzger] said, we have to be very careful changing this. The whole
process of publishing docs via the buildbot is fragile.
We already have redirects in place for the old docs, so we could just add a few
more rules.
[~uce] You want to keep the VERSION string to be the corresponding Git branch?
Just saying because "release-0.8.1" is not actually the version, but "0.8.1" is.
