Yes, it's a bit of effort to get all the pieces that we would need for the 
conversion.
Moreover, I identified another problem. At this level, join predicates might 
also be present in a Filter that succeeds the Join operator.

Let's just remove the check for the StreamExecutionEnvironment, add plan 
validation tests, and adapt the documentation.
